GRAND TOUR OF ROMANIA
Day 1, Friday: BUCHAREST
Arrival at Bucharest Airport Henri Coanda. Pick-up the car at the airport. Free time for visits. Acoomodation at the hotel. Dinner.
Day 2, Saturday: BUCHAREST – CURTEA DE ARGES – SIBIU
Panoramic sightseeing tour of Bucharest, including the Parliament Palace (2nd largest building in the world after the Pentagon), the Revolution Square (with the Royal Palace and the Atheneum concert hall), the Triumphal Arch, the Church of the Patriarchate and the open air Village Museum. Departure to Curtea de Arges, former capital of Wallachia. Visit the Episcopal Church where the Romanian Kings are buried. Drive along the picturesque Olt Valley to Cozia Monastery (visit) and Sibiu, one of the oldest towns in Transylvania - formerly Hermannstadt - founded by the Saxon colonists. Walking tour of the medieval town (the Main Square, the Evangelical Church, the Liars' Bridge etc.) Dinner and accommodation in Sibiu. After dinner optional night walking tour.
Day 3, Sunday: SIBIU – SIGHISOARA – TARGU MURES
In the morning departure to Sighisoara, birthplace of Vlad the Impaler. Visit the medieval citadel: the Clock Tower, the Church on the Hill, the House of Dracula, the roofed stairways etc. In the afternoon departure to Targu Mures, visit of the elegant city centre well known for its architecture: The Culture Palce, the Orthodox Churches, the Teleki-Bolyai library. Dinner and accommodation in Targu Mures.
Day 4, Monday: TARGU MURES – SIGHETU MARMATIEI – VADU IZEI
Departure towards Maramures - a region most famous for its woodwork traditions and the unspoiled rural life. A trip to Maramures is in all seasons a superb adventure in the Picturesque Kingdom: visit the Merry Cemetery, the picturesque villages of Sacel, Bogdan Voda and Rozavlea, with their wooden churches and porches etc. Late afternoon return to Vadu Izei. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5, Tuesday: VADU IZEI – PRISLOP PASS – CAMPULUNG MOLDOVENESC
In the morning visit the Rozalvea and Ieud monasteries and the Peasant Museum from Dragomiresti. Drive on to Bucovina - land of the unique painted monasteries belonging to the UNESCO World Heritage. Short stop in the Prislop Pass to admire the beautiful landscape and walking through Ciocanesti to admire the decorated houses. Arrival in Campulung Moldovenesc, visit the Wood Musesum. Dinner and overnight in Campulung. After dinner optional night walking tour.
Day 6, Wednesday: CAMPULUNG MOLDOVENESC – BUCOVINA MONASTERIES – SUCEAVA
In the morning visit the Moldovita and Sucevita monasteries with outside frescoes. Stop in the beautiful village of Marginea, famous for its black pottery. Drive on to Suceava, former capital of Moldova. Dinner and overnight. After dinner optional night walking tour.
Day 7, Thursday: SUCEAVA – RED LAKE – TARGU MURES
After breakfast visit the famous monastery of Voronet, "the Sistine Chapel of the Orient". Departure across the mountains to Targu Mures, through the spectacular Bicaz Gorges - the Red Lake. In the afternoon drive on to Targu Mures via Gheorghieni – Praid – Sovata - Targu Mures. Dinner and overnight in Targu Mures.
Day 8, Friday: TARGU MURES – BRAN - BRASOV
Drive on to Brasov, via Prejmer and visit the beautiful fortified church. Continue to Bran and visit the medieval castle built as a fortress - The "Dracula's" Castle (1377). Arrival at Brasov formerly Kronstadt, founded by the Saxon colonists. Walking tour through the old town centre, including the Black Church and the Council Square.
Dinner and accommodation in a hotel located in the middle of the forest.
Day 9, Saturday: BRASOV – SINAIA – BUCHAREST
In the morning drive across the mountains to Sinaia. Visit the fabulous Peles Castle - former summer residence of the Royal family. Late afternoon drive to Bucharest.
Dinner and overnight.
Day 10, Sunday: BUCHAREST
Breakfast. Visit the Parliament Palace (2nd largest building in the world after the Pentagon). Drop off the car at the airport. End of our services.
